Publix Super Markets, Inc, also referred to as Publix is an American supermarket chain founded in 1930. Today it is one of the largest grocery chains in the US with over 200,000 employees and counting. The company has grown tremendously over the years mainly because it has been able to distinguish itself from the competition. 

The fact that Publix has been able to compete and stay on top is perhaps a testament to its employees’ resilience, which stems from their mission statement. 

Publix Mission Statement Analysis

Publix’s mission statement is: “To be the premier quality food retailer in the world.”

Publix’s Mission statement is short, sweet, and snappy. However, upon closer inspection, you’ll find a couple of interesting things worth noting. 

The first thing you’ll find is that they mention “retailer in the world.” That’s strange because Publix is not known beyond US borders. Also, the company until late has not tried to go multinational beyond Canada, perhaps. However, it does indicate that the company has multi-national aspirations. So, it is safe to assume that the company may start opening its chain of stores in other countries soon. 

The second interesting feature of the mission statement is the mention of “premier quality food.” That’s one of the reasons why the company has been so successful. People trust the company to sell high-quality food items and that’s where a lot of their sales come from in the US. 

Publix Vision Statement Analysis

Publix’s vision statement is: “Dedicated to customer service and community involvement and being a great place to work and shop.”

Publix’s vision statement is of any company that sees itself at the forefront of the industry. For starters, the aim to create the best workplace ensures that they continue to attract talented people. Also, making the working environment great helps to retain existing talent something which Publix, for the most part, has been able to do successfully. 

The other perhaps equally significant statement, “customer service and community involvement,” comes across as strange at first. What has customer service got to do with community involvement? However, as it turns out, the company sees providing top quality customer service as being dedicated to the community. That’s in addition to the company’s involvement in the local community. 

Publix has setup many community projects and at the same time, invested heavily in making customer service excellent and seamless. Both of which have helped the company grow tremendously.  

Publix Core Values Analysis

Publix’s core values: “Dignity, high stewardship standards, employee protection, and waste intolerance.”

Publix’s core values reflect what the business is all about. We particularly like the fact that they state that dignity, employee protection, and waste intolerance is part of it. In today’s economic environment in which other big chains are firing employees, Publix, on the other hand, is protecting them. 

Also, waste intolerance means that the company takes measures to minimize waste and dumping. All of which makes Publix a highly responsible company.
