When you hear the name Alibaba, chances are one thing comes to mind: the website, famous for it’s one of a kind B2B online wholesale platform. But the fact of the matter is that is just one of many businesses run by the Alibaba Group. 

Alibaba Group is a Chinese corporation founded in 1999. And though was the company’s first project, the Alibaba Group continues to grow as a world leader in e-commerce, digital media, and cloud computing. 

The core values and corporate mission and vision statements for the Alibaba Group show that the company’s foresight for it’s role as a global powerhouse has been, and will continue to be, it’s biggest asset. 

Alibaba Group Mission Statement Analysis 

Alibaba's mission statement is very simple: To make it easy to do business anywhere in the world. And as a world leader in IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) and PaaS (Platform as a Service), it’s safe to say they are succeeding at their mission.

The company aims to help businesses achieve 2 primary objectives: 

1. Improve the efficiency of the way they market, sell and operate 2. Gain access to the best technology, infrastructure and market reach 

In 1999 Alibaba Group changed the wholesale game with the platform. And over the past 20 years it has grown into a global conglomerate overseeing 9 primary businesses, including Taobao—a Chinese e-commerce platform, Alibaba Cloud—the world’s third largest IaaS utility, and Alimama—the company’s ad monetization platform. The corporate vision statement at Alibaba Group is: “We aim to build the future infrastructure of commerce. We envision that our customers will meet, work and live at Alibaba.” (source

Alibaba Group is committed to the future. Their vision may seem a bit strange on the surface… “meet, work and live at Alibaba.” But what they are actually focusing on is providing infrastructure for the evolving digital economy. 

Alibaba sees itself as a global resource for small business and has set goals to be serving 2 billion consumers world-wide by 2036. At the same time, the company aims to empower 10 million businesses and plans to have created 100 million jobs across the globe. (source

In addition to this ambitious goal, Alibaba Group has taken other measures to secure their vision for the future. With programs like Taobao Universtiy, launched in 2006, and Alibaba Global Leadership Academy (AGLA), launched in 2016, the company is providing education platforms to help train the future leaders and business professionals of the digital economy. This statement sums it up nicely. Alibaba Group is certainly a global powerhouse. But their core values center around building up small business, creating trustful relationships and embracing a culture of personal responsibility and respect. 

Alibaba Group has proven it’s commitment to these values over the years. In 2010 the company established the Alibaba Partnership to ensure the sustainability of these core values as well as the corporate mission and vision. And in 2011 Alibaba Group created the Alibaba Foundation, a foundation who’s sole purpose is a dedication to social causes. (source
