GoPro is one of the leading manufacturers of so-called ‘action cameras.’ Since its founding in 2002, the company has grown thanks tremendously in part to its slick marketing and branding campaigns. 

Founded initially as Woodman Labs, the primary focus for the company was sports, and everything from its cameras to marketing was focused on this niche. However, the company soon learned that there was a much bigger market that they were not tapping into and that’s when GoPro as a brand was born. 

The fact that action cameras are synonymous with the GoPro brand is, in part, proof that the company has a very brief yet impactful mission evident from its mission statement. 

GoPro Mission Statement and Analysis 

GoPro’s mission statement is: “To help you capture life as you live it, share the experience and pass on the stoke.”

  • GoPro’s mission statement is as action-packed as its cameras. Right off the bat, it is apparent that GoPro is intended to “capture life” but not just capture it but as it is experienced. That has been the motto of the company since the brand was born. 
  • GoPro’s products, from its action cameras to drones and apps are intended to capture life as it is lived. But by stating “…. share the experience and pass on the stoke”, that’s the company’s way of saying that it is just as crucial for its users to share what they capture. That’s one of the leading reasons why GoPro is so heavily invested in its software. So, people can share just as quickly as they can capture via a string of social media outlets.

GoPro Vision Statement 

GoPro’s vision statement is: “We dream. We have passionate ideas about what is possible in this world. Our passions lead us to create experiences and realities that expand our world and inspire those around us.”

GoPro’s vision statement is one of the few that’s a fantastical vision, but it is one that the company has religiously abided by. For starters, they are always on the lookout for ideas that are passionate, and that for a company like GoPro is important because they are a company that fuels people’s passion for sports, travel and documenting their lives. 

Action cameras like the ones GoPro manufactures have helped other people share in the experiences of a few lucky ones. So, whether it is climbing K2, or killing it at a concert, having a GoPro strapped on allows everyone to share in the thrill which does, in fact, stays true to the company’s vision of “…expand our world and inspire those around us.”

GoPro Core Values 

GoPro’s core values are: “Trustworthiness, curiosity, creativity, and future-mindedness.”

GoPro’s value of trustworthiness is what has helped the company establish itself in what is a niche market. However, by adding creativity and curiosity to the mix, they have been able to effectively expand upon that niche to make it a billion-dollar industry. 

The “future-mindedness” of a company like GoPro is essential because it allows the company to adopt new ideas and change with moving trends easily. After all, change is unavoidable, but adopting can mean being successful.
